Slab box with fitted lid
Objective: Create a slab box that has a lid that is flush and even with the edge of the box and has a stopper.
2
Slab Box with Fitted Lid
Make a box using ¼” slab tiles. Box can be 3½”x5½” wide & 2” tall, or 5”x5” wide & 2” tall. Trim each joint of the box 45 degree angle and place a coil into each corner seam & blend into box walls. Score and slip a stopper under the lid so lid doesn’t slide more than a ¼ “ in any direction. The box & lid should fit together evenly (it is flush with the edge of the box). Apply a pattern of texture on the outside of the box & lid. Use texture plates, wheels, or stamps to add the texture. Pattern can’t be inscribed (carved in).

Good texture but lid & box don’t fit together evenly
Good texture but lid & box don’t fit together evenly. Top edge of box & lid edge are warped.
7
Slab box with cut lid Objective: Create a slab box with a unique cut lid and a decorative or nature inspired knob.
8
Slab Box with Cut Lid Make a ¼ “ slab box that resembles a 4” x 6” index box. Cut 4 = 4”x 6” rectangles & Cut 2 = 4” x 4” squares. Trim each joint of the box to a 45 degree angle, then score & slip together. Place a coil into each corner seam and blend into the walls of the box. The box will be constructed in the form of an enclosed rectangular prism first.

Slab Boxes with Cut Lids (continued)
Once box is completely enclosed (that means it is not open), then cut off the lid about ¾ ”- 1” down from top of the box. Cut should be a unique pattern so lid won’t slide off box. Then attach a nature inspired or decorative knob to the middle of the lid. The knob can not be a simple shape such as a square, rectangle, or sphere. Additional designs may be applied or inscribed on the box as well if desired.
10
Slab box should be completely closed BEFORE you make your cut for the lid. That means you won’t be able to open your box until you make the cut for your lid! Cut lid ¾ “-1” down from top of prism in a unique pattern WWWWWWWWWWW WWWWWW Enclosed Rectangular Prism
