Well North: places change for the better when we see local people as the solution, not the problem…
10 health & wellbeing path-finders across the north of England supporting people to be part of vibrant, connected communities, rather than just quitting smoking or eating better help transform neighbourhoods into dynamic communities by realising the potential of the people who live there. tackling debt, lack of jobs and training, missed education opportunities, poor housing, and loneliness.

…and Well Bradford is unique because the project is hosted by an acute hospital….
We are a major employer We are an economic hub (new £30m cap-ex; goods & services; utilities, training professionals and apprentices) Yet for the majority of the community we are simply a provider of acute care Well Bradford wants to test how hospitals make a greater difference beyond the acute services they offer Is this a way to close the “health & wellbeing” gap ?
5
…so we have begun working with partners to develop a range of projects ….
Local match-funding from the CCGs, Council, and acute trust. But these are not “hand-outs” – we must not create dependency Well Bradford is hosted by the acute trust, but will collaborate with all sectors to deliver sustainable improvements to our diverse communities These projects will contribute to overcoming the causes of ill health, highlighted by studies like Born in Bradford Starting in Girlington (next door to BRI) we aim to make a difference to health outcomes in our city and district. We will also support projects in Holme Wood and Keighley

…. and we are asking local people what would make the biggest difference.
We have 2 years (to April 2018) to kick-start lasting change We aim to invest in sustainable projects, with a clear health benefit, and demonstrate community support Proposals from Girlington “ideas day”… Mums & children: eg “HENRY”, first aid; Getting the right treatment: eg appropriate use of A&E; Healthy environment: eg air pollution, open spaces, Clean up Girlington Involving everyone: eg engaging faith communities, “signposting” (Re-)Connecting the hospital and BD8: eg science in schools, outreach Girlington health campus: eg asset plan; greater than sum of its parts
