“Halloween costume showdown”
2
Every year, kids are asked a simple question: "What would you like to be for Halloween?" Young boys might be steered toward G.I. Joe, Han Solo, Robin Hood, a Ninja Turtle, or any character from a long list of superheroes and action films and TV shows. For girls, at least in the last decade, Halloween costumes largely gravitated toward princesses. Indeed, for the past 11 years, princess costumes have been the top-selling children's Halloween costumes, according to the National Retail Federation. But this year, kids' superhero costumes are now the bestsellers for the Halloween season, bumping princess costumes down to No. 2 on the list. Animal costumes, Batman and Star Wars characters round out the top five most popular children's costumes on the federation's list this year. Not only have the Halloween options for kids gotten more diverse, they've gotten more empowering. For kids, dressing as a superhero meant they could see themselves doing everything their caped adventurers could do: they can fly, crush cars, chase bad guys and shoot out spider webs.

In Other News Vine's six seconds of fame are over. Twitter announced plans on Thursday to kill off Vine, the short-form looping video app it acquired four years ago in an early effort to bring video to the social network. No reason was provided for shuttering Vine. However, the move was announced just hours after Twitter confirmed significant job cuts in a desperate bid to be profitable. Twitter's failure with Vine mirrors the broader struggles with Twitter itself. Despite being beloved by a loyal community of millions, Vine suffered from Twitter's muddled product vision, inability to keep up with competitors and an unclear path to mainstream success. Google wants to roll into your office, literally. Google unveiled a new 55-inch digital whiteboard on wheels that is intended to "redefine meetings," or at least help Google gain footing in the workplace. The product, called Jamboard, lets teams pull up documents and presentations on screen from Google's suite of productivity tools like Docs and Drive. Likewise, whatever you write or draw on the giant touchscreen can then be backed up online.
