Understanding the Online Environment
Online environment brings with it a new dimensions in education and training. It uses the full potential of the digital media streaming audio and video, animation and simulations to offer a unique learning experience. Using digital resources Using digital communications media Knowledge- or skills based activities 11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center

Digital Resources Following are different form of digital resources available over the Internet: Print: Textbooks, Study Guides, Workbooks Audio: Audio tapes, Flash Content with sound effects Data: Web Pages, CBT content, Computer Files, Online Tests 11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center
7
Digital Communication Media
There are two forms of digital communication: Asynchronous Communication: , Web Forums, Newsgroup Synchronous Communication: Chat Room, Shared Whiteboard, Application Sharing, Teleconferencing, Web Conferencing, messengers (like Yahoo Messenger, Skype, Hotmail etc.) 11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center
8
Knowledge or Skill Based Activity
Provide support before, during and after an online class because learning is not contained within the time frame of a course. Enabling learners to tap into resources at their greatest point of learning—when they need it—improves long-term retention and proficiency. Content must be rich enough in depth and scope to help you prepare for real-world application. 11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center
9
Pre-course Guidance to Online Students
11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center
10
Provide Pre-course Guidance to Online Students
Before starting the program, the e-learner must be provided with the following items: Information related to the hardware and software the e-learner will require. Description of any particular skills or aptitudes the e-learner needs to help him/her to participate successfully in the course. Description on what the learner can expect to get out of the course. 11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center

12
Responsibilities Of An Online Tutor
Develop competence in online teaching Provide pre-course guidance to online students Develop an online relationship with the students Initiate activities that will facilitate and support online learning Continually evaluate progress of students After the session, provide parents and student the summary of the lessons learned during the session 11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center
13
Competent in Online Learning
An Online Tutor must have following competencies: Subject expertise Act as a coach Be able to asses student’s progress Familiar with trouble shooting online tools A tutor must thoroughly know the activities that are facilitating and thoroughly understand the process of facilitation. 11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center
14
Develop an Online Relationship with the Students
Tutor’s major motivation is to build the learner's self-confidence Tutor should not impose their personal value system or lifestyle on their tutee. Tutor must contact the learner by phone or when a session is missed. Tutor must be liberal with sincere positive feedback and praise. Tutor must aid tutee in assessing strengths and weaknesses. Tutor must take time to listen to the learner. 11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center
15
Initiate Activities That will Facilitate and Support Online Learning
Help the learner set realistic short- and long-term goals. Share time management and organizational skills. Use open-ended sentences. Thoroughly understand the activities you are facilitating and thoroughly understand the process of facilitation. Maintain all necessary records as expected and required. Stay updated with the current literature about tutoring as it relates to my work. Be on time with your sessions and expect the learner to be on time. 11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center
16
Continually Evaluate Progress of Students
Promote self-evaluation and self-assessment. Encourage self-rewards. Evaluate progress of students tutoring by asking questions. Ask open ended questions Ask probing questions Rephrase questions. Ask the tutee multiple questions so that an accurate assessment can be made to decide how to be of greatest assistance. 11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center

Referring Subject Expert should provide learners references to viable resources, whether within the learning materials, or in books or web sites, to avoid learners from becoming dependent on a subject expert. There is a great danger that learners will become dependent on a subject expert, if every question they ask is answered in detail. To avoid this, the subject matter should, where possible, refer learners to vailable resources, whether within the learning materials, or in books or web sites. Spoon feeding simply makes the subject expert a reference tool for lazy learners. 11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center
23
(c) NR Computer Learning Center
Contributing Subject expert will have a key role to play in contributing to knowledge bases Frequently asked questions and other reference tools for learners are also valid contributors to discussion or chat sessions Manages day-to-day process students will follow Manages discussions, including starting, summarizing, etiquette 11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center

Comprehending Online Learning Pedagogy
Match to the curriculum Inclusive practice Learner engagement Innovative approaches Effective learning Formative assessment Summative assessment Consistency and transparency in content Cost-effectiveness Sympathize with the audience’s situation if appropriate 11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center
26
Match to the Curriculum
The pedagogy should be matched with and aligned to the appropriate curriculum through: Clear objectives (at an appropriate level and form of specification) The relevance of content covered The appropriateness of student activities The nature of the assessment 11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center
27
(c) NR Computer Learning Center
Inclusive Practice The pedagogy should support inclusive practice seen in terms of: professional knowledge barriers to learning strategies for developing reflective practice apply your specialist knowledge to support and raise achievement of students improving learning with an interactive whiteboard assessment in language teaching and learning 11/30/2018 (c) NR Computer Learning Center
