2. THE FLYING SHUTTLE
The flying shuttle was made by John Kay and was the first step towards automating the textile industry. Only one person was needed to operate it instead of the 2 people that it took by hand. It was a major improvement in weaving and made weaving a lot faster. It worked by passing a shuttle with wool in it through strings which was how weaving by hand worked.

3. THE SPINNING JENNY
The spinning jenny was made by James Hargreaves and made it easier to spin thread by stretching and twisting wool. It improved on the spinning wheel which took a long time to spin thread and was very tedious. It made the whole process faster by having multiple spindles and not just one.

4. The water frame
The water frame was made by Richard Arkwright and used water power to power the machine. It twisted cotton into yarn and put the yarn onto spools. It improved on the spinning jenny by using water power and having a lot of spools, saving a lot of time.

5. THE MUle
The mule was made by Samuel Crompton and spun a lot of wool. It used a bar that would get pulled back and forth and was worked by 2 children. It was a big improvement from the water frame because of the amount of wool it made.

6. THE STEAM ENGINE
As spinning machines got bigger and everything needed more electricity, the steam engine was used in textile making. The steam engine was Made by a bunch of people making improvements to it over time. Now, the machines could be placed anywhere instead of them having to be beside the river.

7. fACTORIES
As machines got bigger and bigger, special buildings called factories had to be built to accommodate them. Factories could mass produce a lot of things. A lot of people would work in factories and there were plenty of low skilled people looking for jobs.
