3 Aims of the session To support delegates in their understanding of national standards by: sharing best practice reviewing Unit Assessment Support Packs (USAPs) discussing the USAPs and associated assessment standards with colleagues asking questions and seeking clarification about national standards

4 Rationale Skills for Work courses are designed to help candidates develop: skills and knowledge in a broad vocational area core skills an understanding of the workplace positive attitudes to learning skills and attitudes for employability A key feature of these courses is the emphasis on experiential learning, learning through practical experience and by reflecting on that experience.

5 Good practice – Internal Assessment report
Administration and application of awards integration of assessments in-house devised learning materials candidate logbooks recording everyday activities photographic evidence and brightly coloured story boards displayed, reminding pupils of their learning journey Strong industry links and partnership arrangements experience of working in realistic working environments at colleges, restaurants and hotels wide variety of commercial and residential establishments for work experience Promotion and PR innovative approach to running events: candidates producing marketing plans and involvement with local press to help raise the profile of the work being carried out by school pupils
