Do Now: Take out homework, notebook, and pencil
Start a new Do Now page on page At top of page write Do Nows for week of 11/6 What do organisms need to stay alive? What would happen if you did not have things like food, water, or shelter?
3
Biotic factors and abiotic factors make up habitats
Habitat- specific food, water, shelter, and other needs for specific organism Different habitats because different organism’s have different needs Forest for a deer, ocean for a shark Biotic factors and abiotic factors make up habitats Biotic- living such as grass, butterfly, owl Abiotic- non-living such as sunlight, soil, water
4
Ecosystem Organization
Organism > Population > Community > Ecosystem Organism- one specific species that produce offspring Population- all the same species living together Community- all different species living together Ecosystem- All living and non-living things
9
Organisms need food, water, shelter, and space to grow to survive
Limiting factors- when something about the environment or a lack of resources decreases population size Bad weather, drought, forest fire Lack of food, water, shelter, or space Competition- interaction between 2 or more organisms when they are trying to use the same resources This causes lack of resources and can cause population numbers to decrease.
10
Carrying capacity- the largest population an area can hold due to limited resources
Population size increases until carrying capacity is reached and then it stabilizes We can use data tables and graphs to analyze population size changes and conclude what may have caused these changes
