OVERVIEW OF COLLECTION
Goal: To support scholarship on Rawlings’s life and works, to preserve and digitize her papers Current Status: includes about 4100 letters, and several manuscripts, drafts, speeches, and poems Uniqueness of Collections GOAL: CURRENT STATUS: UNIQUENESS: - Pulitzer Prize winner - part of The Floridian Initiative. “The Floridians makes available the archives, manuscripts and other personal collections of Florida leaders, including architects, visual and performing artists, writers, politicians, ecologists, etc. These collections contain the priceless and varied record of stewardships that wielded statewide and national significance. The collections also contain a varied picture of local history in Florida communities, the interaction of the environment and development, and the essential changes resulting from Florida's tremendous growth in the 20th century. The record of how our leaders dealt with these challenges rests within these collections.” Image:

COLLECTION CONTENT Material Scope Time Span Format Location
Material: correspondence, manuscripts and writings, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, legal papers, and photographs. The writings include early drafts of novels, short fiction, speeches, and poems. Manuscripts, drafts, and notes are included for major works including The Yearling, Cross Creek, The Sojourner, The Secret River, and South Moon Under. Scope: The collection is divided into five major groups: Correspondence, Manuscripts and Other Writings, Miscellaneous Papers, Papers Related to Ellen Glasgow, and Photographs. Primary and secondary sources Time Span: The collection dates from , with the bulk of the materials spanning from Format: texts, photographs, architectural records, video/audio files Location: Letters and other materials by and about Rawlings exist in several other collections at the University of Florida, including theBrandt and Brandt Papers, the Gene Baro Papers, the Cason vs. Baskin Cross Creek Trial collection (aka, Phil May Papers), theEdith Pope Papers, the Archives of The Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Society, and an audio recording of an Interview with Rawlings and her maid Martha Mickens.
