1 SECURE YOUR ONLINE SELF

2 Cyber Smart Week gives us all a chance to check out our online selves.
Key points about Cyber Smart Week: Our plan isn’t to create fear, uncertainty and doubt in our audiences, it’s to help them understand that good security is really just a combination of simple steps. Protecting your online self is as easy as just doing a handful of things. Even one action will mean your security is stronger than it was before.

3 USE UNIQUE PASSWORDS Have a different password for each of your accounts The key points for unique passwords are: If you use the same password for everything, if that password gets leaked or lost, you need to change all of your passwords You may not know that someone has got hold of your password until it’s too late – if you’re using the same one for everything the damage could already be done.

4 TURN ON 2FA Make your online accounts more secure with two-factor authentication. It’s often a password, and something else, like a code. The key points for 2FA are: 2FA is simple to set up but adds another layer of protection to your accounts 2FA means that when you log into accounts you’ll be asked for a second thing, like a code from an app, before you can log in.

5 UPDATE YOUR APPS Keeping your apps up to date is a really good way to defend yourself against bugs and viruses. The key points for updating apps are: Updates help keep you safe. If you haven’t applied updates it’s like locking your front door but leaving the window wide open. Updating apps, and operating systems is one of the easiest things you can do to protect yourself

6 CHECK YOUR PRIVACY SETTINGS
Set your privacy settings so you know exactly who can see what you post on social media. The key points for checking privacy settings are: If you’re sharing lots of personal info online, it can be used against you. Keeping on top of your privacy settings means you’ve got better control of your data and who can see what.

7 REPORT IT If you experience a cyber security issue make sure you report it using our reporting form at cert.govt.nz or call 0800 CERT NZ ( ) (Mon-Fri 7am – 7pm) The key point for reporting is: Things sometimes go wrong, but don’t be afraid to ask for help. CERT NZ can help you diagnose issues and recover from them.
