1 Developing a technique Chart Chapter 9

2 Technique chart A valuable resource for a radiographer.
Helps to provide a constant method of choosing the proper exposure factors to create a diagnostic radiograph. Is created on the basis of thickness of the area to be examined. Without would have to calculate new technique each time a radiograph was taken.

3 Every x-ray machine is different
Each machine should have its own formulated technique chart. Each machine varies in quality and quantity. Other factors that influence the chart: Speed of screens Age of screens Speed of film SID Amount of beam filtration Temperature and time of film processing Type of grid

4 Technique charts continued
May have to have several charts for same machine. Based on what is being used for radiograph Based on area of radiological examination

5 Technique Chart Formulation
May have to have some trials with patients. Generally can use an adult dog weighing approximately 50 lbs. Large cassette should be used. Medium speed film should be used.

6 Exposure Factors Exposure factors KVp- use Santes’ rule
(2 x tissue thickness in cm) + 40 inches=kVp mAs- screen type should be taken into account: Fast screen: 2.5 to 10 Medium (par speed): 5 to 12.5 Slow (ultradetail): to 40

7 Handout on Creating a Technique Chart
We take in consideration desired mAs, what we are radiographing, as well if a grid is being used.

8 Please refer to book and handout for examples of producing a technique chart.
