Agitators for Change? Abraham Lincoln- President during the Civil War. Opposed to the EXTENTION OF SLAVERY. Wanted to do whatever was needed to keep the country together. Uncle Tom’s Cabin- Real life look at the treatment of slaves angered many to demand an end. Written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. The Liberator – an abolitionist newspaper demanding an end to slavery immediately. Published by William Lloyd Garrison.

Call to End Slavery! Underground Railroad- A secret route of homes of friendly northerners that led to freedom. Harriet Tubman primary leaders of slaves to freedom . The North Star- Newspaper written by Fredrick Douglass, a free black man to demand an end to slavery. Named after the star they followed to freedom. Sojourner Truth- “Ain’t I a woman?” Escaped slave woman who fought to end slavery but also called for women’s rights.

Northerner who wrote the newspaper The Liberator- felt slavery had to be ended thought any means necessary Harriet Tubman Slave women who lead the Underground Railroad- route to freedom. Fredrick Douglass Escaped slave, writer & speaker who published The North Star newspaper. Sojourner Truth Escaped Slave who became a voice for racial and woman’s equality. Famous speech “Ain’t I a Woman?” Harriet Beecher Stowe Wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabin about treatment of slaves, agitated both North & South. Lincoln said caused of Civil war. Station 6 Abolitionist Views
