The Battle of Guilford Courthouse
March 15, 1781, the British and American armies faced each other. After bloody fighting the Patriots retreated. Cornwallis claims victory, but he had lost over a quarter of his men. Weakened by battle he retreats to Wilmington. Greene would see this as Cornwallis accepting defeat. Greene would lead his men through South Carolina taking back every important town and fort in the interior.

The Battle of Yorktown Cornwallis moved to Yorktown and waited for British ships to bring fresh troops in supplies. Without knowing, Cornwallis fell into a trap set by the Americans. From the North an army of more than 7,000 French joined the Americans for the attack on Yorktown. The French fleet sailed to Chesapeake Bay and blocked the entrance (blockade).
