SBCGE will review profile and work samples to make final determination for compacted placement. Very important decision!

3. Why have criteria? Algebra readiness 2 years in 1 + 2 years in 1=
School Based Committee for Gifted Education
Students who are enrolled in 4th grade and meet ALL of the criteria are recommended for Compacted 5th/6th Math.
This opportunity is to ensure Algebra readiness.
Students MUST be able to complete 2 years of math content in one year and subsequently take another compacted course in 6th grade (Pre-Algebra which is Compacted 7th & 8th) for a total of 4 years of math content in 2 years.
According to Middle School Placement Guidelines, Students unsuccessful in the 5th/6th Compacted Course will not be recommended for Pre-Algebra, instead the recommendation will be to placed in Advanced 6th grade Math.
School Based Committee for Gifted Education (SBCGE) is crucial in determining appropriate compacted placement.

4. Direct services should be delivered DAILY for compacted/accelerated curriculum.

5. Traditional Schools AIG Teacher & Assigned 5th grade teacher
will be equally responsible for delivering content
Crucial for success when AIG MOE is less than full time. Students will need to be cluster grouped. AIG teacher time will fulfill math service delivery requirement without additional enrichment/pull-out services for this group.

6. Year-Round Schools
AIG teacher and 5th grade math teachers on each track will be equally responsible for content

7. Transportation
Transportation will not be provided for students to attend classes/take courses on other campuses. Each school must ensure delivery of appropriate services.

The Compacted 5th/6th Curriculum Guide is currently under development and will be ready for the school year.
It is a collaboration between Elementary and Middle School Math. Essential objectives for both grade levels have been identified and carefully placed in guide to ensure students are receiving appropriate instruction throughout the year. This includes when objectives should be taught (quarter) and length of instruction for mathematical concepts.
As our departments are working together, we are considering availability of resources, using Math Expressions when applicable (this is a resource all Elementary Schools should already have), as well as 6th Grade CMAPP resources that do not require text, and the online capabilities of the 6th Grade resources. All of these factors will be considered as we continue with our work.

The Compacted 5th/6th Curriculum Guide is under development. Essential objectives for both 5th and 6th grade have been considered when determining actual time spent and when concept is best taught in relationship to the other concepts ad strands.
A few examples: Number & Operation foundations first, following 5th Grade Geometry, building on with 6th grade concepts, and ending with Integers & Probability after EOG. Both of these 6th grade concepts. All 180 days are crucial when compacting curriculum. Student Responsibility and ownership of their own learning critical.
