Anglo civilians flee the approaching Mexican Army (Runaway Scrape) _____ Texas prisoners from Goliad executed on the order of Santa Anna. ______Fall of the Alamo to Mexican forces under the command of Santa Anna. _____ Santa Anna peruses the retreating Texas Army, he wants to punish Anglo Texans, orders his men to burn farms, and homes.

Sam Houston is pressured by the Texas government to fight the Mexican Army. (Houston is told that people are laughing at him for retreating.)    _____ “Deaf” Smith reports to Sam Houston that the Mexican Army is planning to camp in a field near San Jacinto River after capturing a Mexican messenger with Santa Anna’s plans.

Santa fails to setup guard posts to warn of an enemy attack. _____ After the war council, Sam Houston orders “Deaf” Smith to burn all the bridges leading to the battlefield (This will prevent either side from retreating, and so that Santa Anna can’t receive more reinforcements) _____ Sam Houston orders his 910 men into position at the top of a hill. The attack is timed start during the Mexican Siesta. Sam Houston signals for the attack to begin by blowing trumpets. Houston’s men charge downhill to the Mexican camp below. The Texans have the sun at their backs. _____Santa Anna’s force of about 1200 setup camp near a tree line, and build defenses to protect them from an attack from Sam Houston’s forces that they expect tomorrow morning.

In that 18 minutes 630 Mexican soldiers die. _____Texan forces charge into the Mexican lines, shouting “remember the Alamo” and “remember Goliad”. _____ Finally in position Mexican forces open fire, but are aiming too high, few Texans are wounded by Mexican musket and cannon fire. _____Mexican forces surprised by the attack are scrambling to get ready to fight, and get into formations. Texan cannon fire is adding to the confusion.
