1. Know your topic and materials: Select, if opted, appropriate topic -from your area of specialization and -area of interest to your audience Revisit your knowledge and experience Search published/written/digital sources Search online/interact with others/experts

Verify, fix up errors, correct and update Organize -Introduction -Body -Conclusion Procure/prepare audio-Visual and other aides (clip chart, Poster, picture, graph, tables, model, cartoon, etc)

Ten Tips: 2:Rehearsing Rehearse out loud with all materials/ equipment you plan on using Revise as necessary Work to control filler words; Try to pause and breathe. Practice with a timer and allow time for the unexpected.

3. Visualize yourself on presenting your speech: Imagine yourself speaking - voice loud, clear and confident. Visualize the audience clapping – it will boost your confidence.

Arrive early Walk around the speaking area Practice using the microphone and any audio-visual aids Check stage, lighting, background

Know beforehand about your audience -size, gender, background, age, education, religion, cross-culture, etc. Greet & respond to your audience on arrival Adapt to members of the audience Pay attention and adapt to factors likely to affect your presentation -gender,, facial expressions, noises and technical failures and visual obstruction, if any

Dress yourself- befitting for occasion Be clean and well groomed Present your pleasant look Keep elegant postures & sharp eye on Appropriate facial expressions (avoid grimace, puzzled frowns, annoyance) Movements to advantage and alertness (no excessive moves, stiffness, fidgeting)

It calms your nerves Prepare audience, arouse their interest Set on the theme Divide and subdivide the thematic points Sound of silence: Pause-smile-resume..

..relaxing When we speak out loud, we can’t rely on punctuation to help audience follow along Work on sincerity, thoroughness, confidence and pleasant style Exert vocal emphasis, vary the pitch/speed Avoid mumbling and use of non-words such as ah, uooh, ishhh, etc.

Speak correctly and clearly, using accepted grammar and pronunciation Follow rational order of the speech to lead the listeners’ thoughts also logically to conclusion Employ body language to emphasize points and to assist in communicating concepts and ideas

Don’t apologize For any nervousness or subjective problem – audience probably never noticed it Focus on message – not medium Focus your attention away from your own anxieties Concentrate on your message and audience

Keep you always open and accessible Share emotions and humours with members of your audience Respect their views too Don’t lose temper on disagreements Handle with grace and friendliness Transform your tiring energy into spirit of enthusiasm.
