1 You can use the table above to help you organize the information.
Assignment, red pen, pencil, highlighter, GP notebook, graphing calculator U3D11 Have out: Bellwork: Last year the principal’s car was worth $28,000. Next year it will be worth $25,270. 2 FX – 133 Last year the principal’s car was worth $28,000. Next year it will be worth $25,270. a) What is the annual rate of depreciation? V(t) = k(m)t year t V(t) Initial value = $28,000 +1 +1 +1 multiplier = m last year 28,000 25,270 = 28,000 m2 time = 2 V(t) = $25,270 28,000 28,000 1 now 100% = m2 +1 +1 next year 2 25,270 – 95% 5% +1 0.95 = m +1 The annual rate of depreciation is 5%. +1 b) What is the car worth now? The car is currently worth $26,600. V(t) = 28,000(0.95)t +1 V(1) = 28,000(0.95)1 +1 total: V(1) = $26,600 +1

3 Exponential Growth vs. Decay
Add to your notes: Exponential Growth occurs when the multiplier is greater than 1. We also say the graph is “increasing.” Graph: y x Examples: y = 2x y = 1.5x Exponential Decay occurs when the multiplier is between 0 and 1. (i.e., 0 < m < 1). We also say the graph is “decreasing.” Graph: Examples: y = 0.84x y x y = 0.3x

4 When you finish with the quiz,
Quiz Time! It’s… Clear your desk except for a pencil, highlighter, and a NON-graphing calculator. When you finish with the quiz, work on the worksheet.

5 It’s time to grade Quiz #2.
Take out a red pen. It’s time to grade Quiz #2.
