1 Four Steps Crediting Visual Evidence (Photographs and Images) in MLA Format
To successfully credit the visual evidence (photographs/images) in your Argumentative Photo Essay, please follow the four steps outlined in this short slideshow.

2 Four Steps to Crediting Visual Evidence:
STEP ONE STEP ONE: As with any evidence, you will need to first decide the placement of your visual evidence in your essay. Be strategic with the visual evidence; it must directly relate to the argument that you are discussing. Develop a sentence(s) which overviews the content of the visual evidence. STEP TWO: At the end of the sentence(s), you will need to reference the photograph/image—(see figure 1). For this particular assignment—the argumentative photo essay, you will be require to have between nine (for a ten slide presentation) to fourteen (for a fifteen slide presentation) photographs/images. For each image/photograph, you will be required to overview its content in a sentence(s) and then reference it—(see figure 1), (see figure 2), (see figure 3), etc. STEP THREE: Beneath each photograph/image, you will need to provide reference to the source where you found it; in the same manner that you credit a quotation or paraphrase, you MUST credit the origin of a photograph/image by providing its publication information. For this assignment, you will more than likely be crediting websites or articles from websites. Below each photograph/image, you will first label it, designating it as Figure 1, Figure 2, Figure 3, etc. This number should match the previous reference which you gave to the photo/image after the sentence(s) which overview its content. When crediting the photo/image’s origin, begin with the author’s last name of the source where you found it and the title of the source. For articles from websites, you would use the article title, punctuated in quotation marks, and for websites, you would use the website name, punctuated in italics. If no author is credited (as the example on this slide), shift to the other publication information. NOTE: Please use the templates that I have provided on Canvas to aid you in creating the slideshow presentation. STEP TWO STEP THREE

3 STEP FOUR: On your Works Cited page, you will provide the full publication of the source where you found the photograph/image STEP FOUR NOTE: Use the formats for websites and website articles that you will find in the MLA Packet on Canvas (pg. 34).
