U.S. National Health IT Week is a nationwide awareness initiative focused on catalyzing change in our health system through information and technology. The week is comprised of partner-driven activities and individual contributions, offering healthcare stakeholders an opportunity to educate policymakers and the public on the benefits that health IT brings to our society and our world. The Administration, Congress, corporations, providers, and non-profit organizations around the country are all recognizing the value of shining the spotlight on health IT for one week every year. Goals: Bring Attention to the Value, Opportunities, and Challenges of Health IT. Celebrate our accomplishments in policy and practical implementation of Health IT. Expand our grassroots and grasstops engagement.

What is NHIT Week? U.S. National Health IT Week is a nationwide awareness week focused on catalyzing actionable change within the U.S. health system through the application of information and technology. The week-long celebration is comprised of partner-driven activities and events led by the efforts of national health stakeholders. Participants range from the Administration, congressional, federal and state agencies, providers, non-profit organizations and more.

Points of Engagement: Supporting Healthcare Transformation Expanding Access to High Quality Healthcare Increasing Economic Opportunity Making Communities Healthier Moderator provide high level overview Supporting Healthcare Transformation: The many ways in which health IT is driving transformation in healthcare delivery including improvements in quality and safety, interoperability, advances in innovation, and patient and consumer activation and engagement. Expanding Access to High Quality Healthcare: Use of innovative technologies including telehealth and remote patient monitoring to improve healthcare access, coordination and outcomes. Increasing Economic Opportunity: Highlighting the importance of a robust, diverse health IT workforce and health IT’s role in supporting economic growth. Making Communities Healthier: The fundamental role health IT plays in supporting population and public health.

Moderator provide high level overview The Virtual March letter highlights several steps states can take to address the opioid crisis, including: Enact or broaden the adoption of electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS); Integrate prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs) into electronic health records (EHRs); Leverage telehealth to increase access to substance use disorder treatment and address provider shortages; and Create an integrated data infrastructure across public health, behavioral health, justice, and human services to enhance timely opioid crisis response and prevention.
