Early College A Partnership Between Petoskey High School & North Central Michigan College

2 What is Early College? Student receives high school diploma and North Central Associate Degree* at the end of student’s 5th year (13th grade) *Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of General Studies

3 Why Early College? Free North Central tuition for two years
Free college text books for two years Earn a college degree in accelerated pace A NCN! Early College success advisor and personalized support services Access to college activities and events Early College is typically designed for students that might not have had the opportunity to attend college

4 How many students can participate in Early College?
Up to 25 students per year

5 Who can participate in Early College?
sophomores Have at least a 2.7 grade point average Have qualifying PSAT or ACCUPLACER Completed application Making progress toward graduation Two letters of recommendation Student essay ** Any serious athlete considering to continue with their sport in college should not consider the Early College program

6 What is second step to Early College?
Pass Early College First Year Experience course with a “C” or 2.0 SD Credits

7 What does Early College look like?
Students will be enrolled in high school for five years Second, Third, and Fourth year a combination of concurrent (college classes at the high school) and dual enrolled (college classes at the college campus) classes while taking MMC curriculum at high school Fifth year will be completely at the college campus while completing the final math experience class required for MMC

8 What does Early College look like?
During the Second, Third and Fourth year, students will be allowed To participate in all school activities and to walk in high school graduation ceremony (without receiving diploma) During the Fifth year, students will be allowed Will participate in North Central graduation ceremony Will receive their high school diploma from PHS Can and should apply for local, national, and college based scholarships

9 How do EC classes help me toward my college degree?
Course requirements and grading standards are the same as those in courses offered on campus.  Students should be aware that the credits and grades earned through Early College will appear on a NCMC transcript and will serve as a part of their permanent academic record. 

10 Will my Early College classes transfer to other colleges?
NCN! Early Colleges are recognized by the State of Michigan, are transcribed the same as all other college classes, and are transferrable* Check with transfer institution regarding freshman/transfer application Course equivalency information may be found at or the michigantransfernetwork.org *you may check with the admissions office of the senior institution you wish to attend for further assurance of transferability
