Describe the reasons behind the French and Indian War
Also called 7 Years War in Europe Series of 4 wars between England & France, and their European Allies Most of the battles were in Canada. American colonists, including George Washington, fought with the British in this war The French and Indian War was fought to decide which of France or Britain would become stronger power in North America, each side relying on its colonists and Indian allies to fight. The war began with conflicts about land. French explorers had been the first Europeans in the areas around the Great Lakes in the Ohio, Mississippi rivers, France had sent traders, and trappers to these territories where they had established trading centers there. Britain, however, claimed the same land.

Evaluate the result of the French and Indian War
Ended with the English in control of North America (East of Mississippi from Hudson Bay to Florida Keys) English a dominant role in the war, but faced huge war debt

Explain the Proclamation Line of 1763
Declared there would be no English Settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains English believed invading this land caused the Native Americans to assist the French in the war. Issue: Some colonists have already settled pass that line, and felt it was a infringement on their rights.

War was very expensive Taxes were already high, and the English needed to keep soldiers in the colonies English decided to raise taxes on imported goods which leads to the following acts Sugar Act Currency Act Navigations Acts Quartering Acts “Taxation without representation”

Analyze the Stamp Act of 1765
Affected almost everyone in the colonies Required every piece of paper document from newspapers to playing cards to carry a stamp on it. Reaction was immediate! Colonists feared many more direct taxes would follow.

Summarize the long term affects of the Stamp Act on the English/Colonial Relationship
3 effects to this law: Colonial opposition attacked the English in written statements regarding the relationship Colony vs. England “Sons of Liberty” Inter-colonial meeting, “The Stamp Act Congress”, they passed the Declaration of Rights and Grievances. England's replied with the Declaratory Act; saying they could pass laws for the colonies, “in all cases whatever”.
