Her skin and throat culture were negative, but her nose lesions grew out Staph Aureus. This is STAPH SCALDED SKIN SYNDROME. It is not unusual at all for the skin cultures to be negative as the skin split is caused by a circulating endotoxin, not direct infection of the bacterium.
