Assessment FOR Learning
SO: Introductions. 3 stages of changing our paradigm from a traditional grading system to using assessment to ensure that students learn. I recently had the pleasure of hearing Jay McTighe speak about the change process for schools. He said change should be approached in 3 steps, THINK BIG, START SMALL AND GO FOR AN EARLY WIN. The process you will hear today follows this line of thinking. I will begin by providing an overview of how we “THOUGHT BIG”. Mrs. Avery will then lead us through “START SMALL” and two of our teachers will share their “EARLY WINS”. These teachers will share samples of their use of assessment in from two different perspectives; how the teacher implements standards based assessment and what type of tools they have created to utilize, and how the child is involved in this process and is starting to take responsibility for their own learning.
