6 Write your claim Why did people, including women, oppose women’s suffrage? 1st period Anti-suffragists opposed women’s suffrage because they believed that women had no place in politics. 3rd period Anti-suffragists opposed women’s suffrage because they believed that women belong in the home.

7 First chunk – 1st Period Anti-suffragists opposed women’s suffrage because they believed women had no place in politics. In paragraph two of The Ladies’ Battle (modified) Molly Elliot Seawell states that “And if all the dangers and difficulties of executing the law lay upon men, what right have women to make the law?”

8 First Chunk – 3rd period Anti-suffragists opposed women’s suffrage because they believed that women belong in the home. In paragraph two of The Ladies Battle (modified) Molly Elliot Seawell claims that “The entire execution of the law would be in the hands of men, backed up by irresponsible voters (women) who could not lift a finger to catch or punish a criminal.” From the evidence it can be inferred that anti-suffragists believe that women should not be able to vote and should stay at home because at this time women could not be police officers and could not punish criminals.
