1 Delivery of a Clinical Academic Career Programme across the East Midlands: A Collaborative Approach Ros Kane, Ian McGonagle, Paul Turner, Christine Jackson University of Lincoln, School of Health and Social Care Clinical Academics are key to furthering clinical practice through contribution to care and service provision. In response to the research workforce strategy (DH 2012) the pathway for clinical academics gained impetus and opportunities for developing research skills have increased. In 2013 Health Education East Midlands (HEEM) commissioned UoL to develop a programme to support pre-PhD Clinical Academic Careers (the Silver Scholar Award). The aim was to complement the existing the Bronze Award, thus adding to the range of opportunities for clinicians wishing to pursue research active clinical careers. Lincoln University has now also been commissioned to run the Bronze programme from November 2016. Initially commissioned as separate initiatives the potential benefit to the health community of closer collaboration soon became apparent. Subsequently a fully integrated strategy for CAC was developed such that the programme is now recognised as one single entity, coordinated under one East Midlands wide steering group of which we are members. Additionally a further higher level (Gold and Platinum) awards are now in development. This integrated approach has facilitated implementation of the ‘Clinical Scholar’ initiative across the East Midlands which can only strengthen the approach in developing research active clinicians in the region. Tel: Acknowledgements: Health Education East Midlands (HEEM) for funding the programmes
