Web-Portal as a single-point of information and collaboration
FEI Vision: A traditional sport that has been e-enabled Mission and goals at a glance The FEI is in the process of implementing the new business strategy that was recently developed on the basis of Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein's original FEI mission statement A core component of the business strategy is to “e-enable” FEI in order to improve FEI processes and foster the relationship between FEI HQ, the NFs, and the other external partners/volunteers Key objectives of e-enabling FEI are Introducing the most advanced e-enabled communication tool and information portal for equestrian sport Setting up a global communication scheme and information tool that would network the organisation Becoming a leader in area of administration compared to other IGBs(1) Making the FEI much more efficient and transparent Why does the FEI has a new IT Manager - Implementing the new IT Landscape It is common understanding that implementing the FEI vision requires a state-of-the art Web-Portal as a single-point of information and collaboration
3
A multi-purpose web portal as an ideal framework for providing current and future applications to the FEI The processes at the FEI will be complety modified

Implementation started in the beginning of September
Mar–Apr 2007 May–Aug 2007 Sep 2007–Nov 2008 Definition of IT strategy Implementation setup Implementation Analysis of FEI processes Definition of business requirements Design of application land-scape and IT infrastructure Supplier selection and contracting Specification and planning Organisation Design, development and deployment of applications for key processes support web portal supporting processes Where are we now, what has been done, the actors IT strategy defined () Setup initiated () Implementation to be prepared and scheduled Current project focus

Future FEI application landscape to take NFs and external partners requirements into account
Process Process should be harmonised with NFs involved and members of the WBFSH Data entry Data entry functionality for event management as most urgent requirement of NFs to be released as soon as possible User interface New FEI core application has to be provide web forms as well as the possibility to download all data selected Data entry Web services for supporting automatic data exchange between NFs and FEI have to be provided When data entry system is in place, information on horses will be available directly from FEI Application landscape and releaseplan not only to be defined on FEI need and technical feasibility but also based on NF and WBFSH requirements

The accuracy and completeness of data cannot be guaranteed
Current situation Problems faced by FEI The info transmitted by NFs cannot be checked This info can be True and complete = no problem True but incomplete (breeding info missing) False The search is difficult often due to change of name and country. (we do not know how to look for the studbook or in the stubook - You do not have the FEI pass number in your database and cannot do the research) Our difficulties are increased by the fact that there are horses which have no breed nor studbook, which means that we cannot make this info compulsory. When the information is false it is even more difficult to trace as there are no critera to base on. We are facing a transitory phase. New passports on which the UELN figure are not yet coming in the FEI. Not many horses currently in the database are entered with the UELN of parents The accuracy and completeness of data cannot be guaranteed
9
We both need these info to be accurate.
A win win situation We need you, you need us: We need you to get proper breeding information on horses You need our info on results Perfect timing We both need these info to be accurate.
10
Exchanging data is the future
To reach this goal we need to exchange info: A common id for the horses A common language Databases to be on the web UELN is the solution
11
From a pure technical point of view
In order to not repeat current IT mistakes the ID must not be linked to any specific characteristics It must be unique It must only be reference to a database These data must be available everywhere at anytime UELN must be unique & without any reference
