Guidance on the efficient administration of a topical steroid: the fingertip rule. (A) One fingertip of cream equates to around a 0.5g steroid dose, (B) sufficient to treat an area equivalent to two palms. By assessing the affected skin surface by units of palm surfaces, the amount of topical treatment required for a given treatment interval can be accurately assessed.
