1. 5, Words and Music
Many Artists have produced work in response to either
the written word or music. Examples include some of the
paintings of Wassily Kandinsky and Paula Rego and the
stage sets and costumes by David Hockney and
Pablo Picasso.
Make connections with appropriate selected sources when
developing your personal response to one of the following:
A poem, story or play that you have chosen or written.
The lyrics of a song.

Week 1. On a large sheet make 15 – 18 black and white studies of the suggested artists. Keep the images small. Use a variety of materials. Do close-ups. Find images on the internet.
HW 1. In your sketchbook make some black and white studies of the suggested
artists. Keep the images small. Fill 2 sides. Find images on the web. Add notes using your Writing About Art sheet
Week 2. On a large sheet make 15 – 18 colour studies of the suggested artists. Keep the images small. Use a variety of materials. Use full copies and close-ups.
HW 2. In your sketchbook make some colour studies of the suggested artists. Keep
the images small. Fill 2 sides. Find images on the internet. Add notes
Week 3. Choose some poems and song lyrics. On a large sheet of paper make 15 – 18 collages and pictures in black and white combining the words with interesting images. Use a wide variety of materials.
Homework 3. In your sketchbook fill 2 sides with small black and white collages of your chosen words combined with images. Add notes. Experiment with materials.
Week 4. On a large sheet of paper make colour images .
Homework 4. In your sketchbook fill three pages with small colour studies your lyrics or poems. Add notes
Weeks 5. Produce a range of larger studies in colour and black and white.
HW 5. Continue to develop your project with studies, sketches and notes as you
plan your Main Piece.
Easter: 9 – 12 sides of further studies as you finalise what to produce in the 10 hour exam.
