Warm Up: 1. Make a list of your 5 biggest accomplishments in life
Explain what the accomplishment was, when it happened, and give any other important details. 2. Share your accomplishment list with your partner- be sure to also be an active listener as they share with you. 3. Number your events based on the time they occurred- 1 for the earliest and 5 for the most recent Then wait for further directions

What are timelines used for?
A timeline is a method for picturing or seeing time. Timelines take events and place them on a line. This shows the chronology, or order that events happened. Timelines are a tool historian use to explain the past Timelines a quick reference guides Timelines often include pictures

Why should we make timelines?
Timelines show the relationship between events and time. Patterns can emerge that might not have been seen without the timeline. They are easy ways to represent a series of events They can simplify a lot of information Let’s look at some examples….

Partner Activity- Making a timeline
I will give you a piece of computer paper now Write both partners names in the upper right hand corer (first and last names), and your period number Be sure to work together – so you both get a good grade. Work together Be polite- use kind words Stay on task Ask if you need help

How to make a Timeline. Step 1: First draw a line.
The line should go through the center of your paper.

Step 2 Determine the time span to be shown- based on the events you are going to list. The example below shows a time span of 10 years. Evenly space the numbers (these should be years)

Step 3 Once you have finished your line, add events to the timeline- you can use the top and bottom. Place the events and description in the order they occurred on the line. The descriptions should be 1-2 sentences. Event 1 Event Event 3 Description Description Description

Step 4 Draw a line from the event to the timeline
Intersect the line at the exact time that the event occurred. Some events do not occur at the divisions on the timeline, but somewhere in between.
