The world is changing… According to recent research…
A child leaving school now is predicted to work until they are at least 75 A young adult leaving school now is expected to have an average of 20 different jobs during their working life Your child will still be working in the final part of this century (2075 onwards)

What does the future hold?
For the first time in our history we simply cannot predict what jobs will exist in 30 years time In 2015 $6 billion of revenue was generated from the creation of ‘apps’ for smart phones and tables. It is predicted that this will double in the next year This industry did not exist 7 years ago

According to research carried out in 2014 by Oxford university, the following jobs are predicted to be the top 10 professions of the future. You must re-sit Subjects at college if not passed at KS4 A pass is currently a grade 4 but this could be increased to grade 5 English Maths Must be done each year until you pass

You will have to stay in full time education until the age of 18 This means that you will have to secure a place in college, training or an apprenticeship when you leave Kirk Balk Academy.

What can we do to prepare?
Our curriculum is designed to provide all students with the range of qualifications required to ensure they have the best life chances available once they leave Kirk Balk Academy. It will allow them to choose the widest range of future career options at college, university and beyond.

What are the pathway subjects?
Course choices which are personal to each student There will be a mixture of GCSE and other approved vocational courses (e.g. BTEC, Tech Awards) Choose three pathway subjects to start in Year 9 The Academy will offer a lot of information, advice and guidance to help students choose the courses that are right for them

What is the difference between GCSE and GCSE Equivalent subjects?
GCSEs are assessed with an examination at the end of the course GCSE Equivalent subjects like BTEC and Tech Awards are assessed through examination and on going portfolio work (2 attempts at exam)

Focus on the basics of English and Maths Entitlement for students to study the full Ebacc Expectation to choose at least one Ebacc, to support students to achieve a ‘broad and balanced’ curriculum leading to a broad and balanced portfolio of qualifications that will keep doors open in the future 8 subjects basic (with Dual award Science) Flexible depending on the needs of the individual EBacc subjects = three year courses over Y9, 10, 11 This model will take some pressure off in Y11; and still return good grades in Y10 (Non Ebacc Subjects) All discussions about time allocation will be done at Christmas P

Example 1 KS4 - Students choosing one EBacc subject and two non-EBacc subjects to start in Year 9 Non-EBacc subjects completed at the end of Year 10 A total of 10 hrs allocated to Y10 pathway subjects This Leaves 6 hrs of Guided Pathway time in Y11 to allocate This Could be 6 hr new subject or 3 hr new subject plus extra time for En/Ma or all En/Ma Discussions to start about additional time to be done at the end of term 1 P

Example 2 KS4 - Students choosing two EBacc subjects and one non-EBacc subject to start in Year 9 This pathway could allow subjects to attain full Ebacc (MFL, 1 Humanities) Non-EBacc subjects completed at the end of Year 10 This Leaves 2 hrs of Guided Pathway time in Y10 to allocate and 3 hrs in Y11 This Could be new subject or Extra time for En/Ma Time can also be given to other underperforming Ebacc Subjects (e.g. Science) P
