1 Oligotrophic Lakes Maysen Salazar

2         An oligotrophic lake is characterized by a low accumulation of dissolved nutrient salts, supporting but a sparse growth of algae and other organisms, and having a high oxygen content owing to the low organic content.

3 Productivity Have low productivity due to low nutrient content.
This causes low concentration of organic material in the lake.  Therefore, decomposer activity and oxygen consumption is slow.

Major Life Forms The lakes have low concentration of nutrients and low concentration of algae and plants. Therefore, it's suitable for lake trout, white fish, tullibee, and cisco. Whitefish live closer to the top of the lake while lake trout thrive closer to the bottom, and come up to feed on the whitefish.  The algae that survives here is green algae. 5 Abiotic Limiting Factors
Low nutrient levels – decomposer activity is slowed High oxygen concentration- oxygen consumption is slow due to low nutrient levels.   Temperature- the water is cold, allowing only  a few species of plants and animals to survive best here.

6 Special Features Oligotrophic lakes tend to be very clear, and have less surface area than depth.  They are special because their low nutrient content, but tend to become more eutrophic over time due to runoff and nutrient deposits. They have a very complex food chain.  Low phosphorus enrichment

7 Plant Adaption  isoetids such as Litoorella uniflora show various adaptations to make successful growth possible under these conditions. Plants and algae float along the shore line and can survive with little nutrients.

8 Animal Adaptation The fish that have adapted here are fish that require cold water, and low oxygen levels.
