What in the World are Nets?
2
What do you think of when someone mentions a net?
3
Maybe you think of these?

Cooks Dancers Bunheads Hair Nets Inc.
1) Dancers and cooks often wear hairnets. 2) The bun makes a 3D shape called a Sphere. 3) If we were to spread the hairnet out flat, what 2D shape would the net make? Cooks Dancers Bunheads Hair Nets Inc.

Let’s talk about, NETS in MATH ! ! !
Definition: A Net is a 2-dimensional pattern that you can fold to form a 3-dimensional figure. Example: Figure 1 Figure 2 Let’s talk about, NETS in MATH ! ! !
6
I like it the way one teacher said it on the internet.
When you wrap a present, you’re working with nets.
7
Parts of a three-dimensional figure
Base(s) the ends of a figure, not necessarily the top and bottom.
8
Parts of a three-dimensional figure
Faces All flat sides of a 3-D figure. This figure has 4 faces. 1 – the base 2 – the left side 3 – the right side 4 – the front
9
Parts of a three-dimensional figure
Lateral faces All flat sides of a 3-D figure EXCLUDING the base(s). This figure has 6 faces, but only 4 lateral faces.
10
Parts of a three-dimensional figure
Edges Where two faces meet.
11
Parts of a three-dimensional figure
Vertex, (plural: vertices) Where edges meet, (the corners or points) This figure has 5 vertices!
