Mission Statement The primary mission of the Institute of Certified Records Managers (ICRM) is to develop and administer the professional certification of Records and Information Managers including the relevant examinations and certification maintenance program. Vision Statement The ICRM is the certifying body for Records and Information Management (RIM) professionals, recognized and valued by employers and RIM practitioners worldwide.

The Certified Records Manager (CRM) designation is based on educational background, professional work experience and successful completion of a six-part examination consisting of:
Part 1 - Management Principles and the Records and Information (RIM) Program
Part 2 - Records and Information: Creation and Use
Part 3 - Records Systems, Retrieval, Conversion and Facilities
Part 4 - Records Appraisal, Retention, Protection and Disposition
Part 5 - Technology
Part 6 – Business Cases

5. Our Certifications-CRA
The Certified Records Analyst (CRA) designation is based on educational background, professional work experience and successful completion of a three-part examination consisting of:
Part 2 - Records and Information: Creation and Use
Part 3 - Records Systems, Retrieval, Conversion and Facilities
Part 4 - Records Appraisal, Retention, Protection and Disposition

6. Our Certifications-specialty designations
CRM/NS – Nuclear Specialist The CRM/Nuclear Specialist was developed in 1990 for CRMs whose field of professional practice is in the Nuclear field by the Nuclear Information and Records Management Association (NIRMA). The Nuclear Specialist exam includes 100 questions. This exam is moving online in CRM/FED - Federal Specialist The CRM/Federal Specialist was developed for CRMs whose field of professional practice involves RIM programs of the U.S. Government, whether as a Federal government employee, uniformed military, vendor, consultant, or contractor. The Federal Specialist exam includes 100 questions over a variety of federal government related areas.

8. Education and Experience
Education: four-year (bachelor’s) degree from an accredited institution of higher education Experience: one year of professional Records and Information Management (RIM) experience. Alternatively, one year of professional Records and Information Management (RIM) experience can be substituted for each year of college education.

10. Exam information Parts 1 - 5 100 multiple choice questions
80 minutes for each part
No penalty for guessing
Can take up to all five in an exam cycle
5-year cycle starts once you are approved
70% required to pass each part
Part 6 (CRM only)
Must pass Parts before you can take Part 6
Must write answers for two 50 point business cases for Part 6
4 hours to complete
70% required to pass
Year round testing for Parts1-5 beginning August 2018.
Note: All exams taken through Pearson VUE testing

11. Certification Maintenance Requirements
Earn, record and submit certification maintenance forms for credit
You need 100 points in a 5 year cycle
One point = one hour of learning contact
NEW - Maintenance credits must be submitted within 6 months of the qualifying event or activity, and documentation of how credits were obtained is required.
Pay Annual Dues of $200.00
