3 The Heart (General Overview)
The Heart acts as a perpetual pump pushing blood through vessels A bit larger than one’s fist in size Beats about 100,000 times per day Circulates 5-7 liters in 1 minute Pumps about 1 million gallons in a lifetime

4 Looking at the Heart Whenever you are looking at the heart it is ALWAYS FROM RIGHT TO LEFT IMAGINE YOU ARE LOOKING AT YOUR OWN HEART

5 Inside your Heart The Heart is made up of Chambers
Upper chambers are called Atriums Lower chambers are called Ventricles

6 Our circulatory system is a double loop circulatory system.
This means it has two parts parts. Lungs Body cells the left side of the system deals with oxygenated blood. Left Ventricle pumps 02-rich blood Towards Body Cells the right side of the system deals with deoxygenated blood. Delivers blood to lungs to get 02

7 Two Systems of Circulation
Pulmonary circulation: between heart and lungs (exchange gasses) Systemic circulation: between heart and rest of body cells (gas, nutrient, and waste exchange)
