2. Old Major and his vision
He gathered all the animals to tell them about a dream, but before he got to talk about the dream he gave a speech about a rebellion.
He told the animals about how they are living miserable lives and it needs to change.
-About how they are working all their lives without reward and get little in return.
- mankind is evil and all animals are allies.
“all men are enemies. All animals are comrades”
- working their entire lives to get killed and possibly eaten at the end of it.

3. Old Major
When Old Major told everyone about the vision he had he ignited an inspiration within the intelligent animals to think and plan a rebellion.
-”Major’s speech had given to the more intelligent animals on the farm a completely new outlook on life”.

4. Old Majors – His dream
His dream was about mankind disappearing from Earth.
-”I cannot describe that dream to you. It was a dream of the Earth as it will be when man has vanished”.
Due to his dream he remembered something he had forgotten about his childhood with his mother and a song
-”Many years ago, when I was a little pig, my mother and the other sows used to sing an old song”.
He started singing and when he reached the end the other animals had started singing it for themselves
-”Even the stupidest of them had already picked the tune and a few of the words, and as for the clever ones, such as the pigs and dogs, the had the entire song by heart within a few minutes”.

5. Old Major – Effects of his speech
After Old Major had died the more intelligent animals on the farm were planning in secret to prepare for a rebellion.
-”they had no reason for thinking that it would be within their own lifetime, but they saw clearly that it was their duty to prepare for it”.
The more intelligent animals were Snowball, Napoleon and Squealer, they had planned the rebellion over a few nights a week.
-”These three had elaborated Old Major’s teachings into a complete system of thought, to which they gave the name of animalism”.
