For the Week of: March 4, 2016 Dates to Remember ¨ March 1- Read-a-thon kickoff 6-7 pm ¨ March 1- Picture day! (Class photo) ¨ March 4- Storybook Character day ¨ March Spring break ¨ March 22- Science Night ¨ March Book Fair Here’s what we are working on! Reading: procedural text (recipes, how-to writing) Math: fractions (conceptual introduction), 3D shapes, money, time Note: please practice math facts at home with flashcards or xtramath.org. Language arts: Word study- dictation, sentences, **Notebooks will go home nightly for practice** Grammar- r-controlled vowels Writing- procedural writing Contact information Phone: (conference period: 1:35-2:35) Social Studies: Producers and Consumers- Economics Fair preparation Science: Basic needs of plants vocabulary economics goods services producer consumer impossible treasures Teacher’s note Wow! It truly is hard to believe that spring break is already here! Where has the year gone? I hope that you all have the opportunity to rest, relax, and enjoy a little time with family and friends! Just a reminder that this Friday, March 4th is Storybook Character Day! Please encourage your child to dress as their favorite character from a storybook. Examples could be SkippyJon Jones, Batman (yes it is ok to dress as a comic superhero), Junie B. Jones, or Thing 1 and Thing 2 from Dr. Seuss. It is always so much fun seeing what the kids come up with and showing off their creative styles! Thank you for encouraging your child to participate! Don’t forget that next week is Spring Break!! March 7th – March 11th Hope you enjoy your time off and have a little fun in the sun!
