What is Preceptorship? “A period of structured transition for newly registered practitioners during which he or she will be supported by a preceptor, to develop their confidence as an autonomous professional, refine skills, values and behaviours and to continue on their journey of life long learning” Department of Health (2010) @AlexThompsonOT #COT2017

4 A GREAT PORTFOLIO OUTLINING MY ACHIEVEMENTS AND IN CASE OF HCPC AUDIT!
Regular meetings, acted as a support group. Monthly subject within the group. At times difficult to find time alongside clinical work to work on our portfolios. Support from fellow preceptees and head occupational therapists. Shared with preceptees across London Boroughs, travelling between sites. Made us think more critically about policies, procedures and core OT skills and how we are applying these. Many preceptorship programmes can still be Nurse centred. It is up to us to develop OT specific opportunities! Increased confidence. Development of reflective skills. Opportunities for service development. Feedback for portfolio allowed for personal and professional development. A GREAT PORTFOLIO OUTLINING MY ACHIEVEMENTS AND IN CASE OF HCPC AUDIT! @AlexThompsonOT #COT2017

5 Advice… Do you not have a preceptorship programme in place?
OR is it not Occupational Therapy specific? Talk to your seniors! Show them the preceptorship handbook and discuss the possible benefits of a preceptorship group. A great service and professional development initiative! @AlexThompsonOT #COT2017
