1 Most of it is in the polar regions and it is frozen.
1.2 Review Questions Why is it important that fresh water flows over Earth’s surface? Water on the surface supports life. The water cycle continues as water flows on land and into the ocean. Explain the relationship between a drainage basin and a divide? A drainage basin is the area on one side of a divide, a ridge of land from which water flows. Water flows from a basin toward the ocean. Where and in what form is most of the fresh water on Earth? Most of it is in the polar regions and it is frozen.

2 1.2 Review Questions If you were going on a fishing trip in a northern state, why would you want to know about lake turnover? It would tell me where oxygen and nutrients were, thus telling me where the fish might be found. Explain the connection between living things in a lake and eutrophication. Eutrophication is an increase in the amount of nutrients in a lake. Living organisms, such as algae grow faster and form solid matter in the lake. Eventually, the lake fills in. How is the water in icebergs involved in the water cycle on Earth? Icebergs are made of frozen fresh water from snow. After they melt, water evaporates and returns to the surface as precipitation.
