Any young person can experience homophobic, biphobic or transphobic bullying.
Homophobia, biphobia and transphobia can put pressure on young people to act aggressively towards people who are perceived to be LGBT.
Unchallenged pejorative language sets up young people to fail in future study and employment. .

Homophobia, biphobia and transphobia can make it difficult for young people to be close friends with someone who is the same sex or who identifies as LGBT.
Young people are already hearing about LGBT issues. It is important that young people have access to accurate information and that prejudiced attitudes, behaviour or language is challenged.

6. This is just an example from the Charter of Rights
This is just an example from the Charter of Rights. It was first developed from young people who attended our Dumfries groups way back in The young people felt that their Rights were not being met. From that a Charter was created to work towards more inclusive schools, communities and policies.

Recognition:
LGBT Schools Charter Mark
Broxburn Academy was the first school to achieve the Charter. From that school and with our research there was the development of a specific Charter that worked for young people in schools.
Standards: Refer to the banner if you have it or copies of the awards Standards. So if the school is going for Bronze and they mark Purple Friday then at point 5 (Practice) on the Charter they have undertaken activities/marked commemorative days.
You could go through some of the earlier Charter points such as training and the requirement at different levels.

Polari is an old street language style that was used for LGBT people to be able to talk in the street or in a café without giving themselves away. Originally a theatrical language it would transfer names. So for example:
Polari: eek = Face.
In the 1950s and 1960s this was an undercover way of not ‘outing’ yourself.

Civil Rights Movement: The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, August One of the chief organisers with Philip Randolph was Bayard Rustin. An openly homosexual man he was slightly sidelined because of this. After the death of Martin Luther King Jr, both Bayard and Coretta Scott King (Martin Luther King were involved in the Civil Rights movement which included the movement for LGBT rights (or gay liberation as it was termed).
Political campaign: LGBT in the Scottish Parliament. No Trans identities represented if we consider we have a rainbow parliament. Also 34.9% are women MSPs which is the same proportion as 2011 elections.
