MATERIALS One marble per group 4 books One drinking straw per student

PROCEDURES Place the marble on a solid, flat surface
Make sure the marble is not moving Draw and label a diagram in your notebook that shows all the forces acting on the marble. (Be sure to use arrows)

PROCEDURES Taking turns, each group member should blow air onto the marble through the straw. The marble should remain on your table or in your designated area. Draw and label a diagram in your notebook which shows all forces acting on the marble.

PROCEDURES Have each group member blow air onto the marble through a straw at the same time. Your goal is to try and keep the marble as still as possible. Draw and label a diagram in your notebook which shows all forces acting on the marble.

PROCEDURES Stack up 4 books.
Place the marble on top of the books so that it does not move. Draw and label a diagram which shows the forces acting on the marble.

PROCEDURES Based on what you have discovered so far, place the marble on the books so that there is an unbalanced force acting on the marble. Draw and label a diagram which shows all forces acting on the marble.

What do you think is the difference between a balanced force and an unbalanced force? Durning your investigation, when was there an example of a balanced force? Durning your investigation, when was there an example of an unbalanced force? In the last step, what did you do to the books to cause unbalanced forces to act on the marble?
