This year, your child will be given three major assessments which will help us, the classroom teachers, personalize your child’s classroom instruction.
5
The first is MAP( Measure of Academic Progress)
The first is MAP( Measure of Academic Progress). This is a test taken on a computer and will cover both READING and MATH. These tests offer an indicator as to where your child is at the current time. They will be taken 3 times this year; in the FALL, WINTER and Spring. The hope is that your child’s score increases on each assessment.
6
MAP READING NORMS FOR THIRD GRADE:
FALL: 188 WINTER: 196 SPRING: 199
7
MAP MATH NORMS FOR THIRD GRADE:

What we like to see is GROWTH!!!!
9
The next assessment we use is READING 3D.
This assessment is administered 3 times a year; FALL,WINTER AND SPRING. This assessment helps us to see what reading level your child is on and what work needs to be done with them to increase their reading level.
10
These are the goals : Beginning of the year: M Middle of the year: O End of the year: P (level P indicates on grade level)
11
Your child received their level by reading a story out loud, answering verbal questions and the completing written responses . They also were given 2 timed assessments. One is a 3-minute one where they read some sentences and had to choose the correct word from a box to complete that sentence. The other tested how fluent your child reads by letting them read aloud a passage for one minute. This test was conducted three times and fluency was the calculated average. All of these things helps us to arrive at a reading level and indicators on things we can do to increase your child’s level through progress monitoring activities.
12
Every third grader will be taking test in READING and MATH at the end of the year that was made North Carolina. These are called the EOGs. These are multiple choice tests and assess what was learned throughout the year. A student is proficient if they score a level 3,4 0r 5 on each test. Our goal is to have students score 4 or 5, which means they are college and career ready.
