Opportunities to take advantage of connected technologies: Transportation is currently the second-largest expense for U.S. households Connected cars are the 3rd fastest-growing mobile device; connected car hardware and software will bring in $152 Billion in 2020 There are 73 Million U.S. Millennials, they are to-date driving 20% less those of the previous decade By 2045, Americans over 65 will increase by 77%; 1/3 with a disability that limits their mobility Today, nearly 1/3 of all commutes begin and end in the suburbs – and it is expected to remain so; new modes of transportation needs to accommodate population location; Only 8% of Millennials prefer to live in auto- dependent suburbs As online shopping market share increases, it is expected to reduce need for private vehicle ownership; however it will likely increase truck traffic as goods are delivered to residences By 2045, Transportation will represent about $1.6 Trillion of U.S. total GDP (gross domestic product) FAA estimates by 2030 implementation of connected tech will result in $130 Billion in social benefits from avoided flight delays / cancellations and reduced flight times By 2035, Air Force estimates 250,000 public/commercial unmanned aircraft systems (drones) in use

Every Connected Tech job created in Michigan creates 6.54 additional jobs in the state (MTAM/MEDC) Jobs to be created nationally include: 220,000 new engineers every year thru 2022 600,000 manufacturing jobs driven by automation and supply-chain data 300,000 new data analysts to bring intelligent decisions to Big Data 1.4 million computer specialists by 2020 1.3 million IT and cyber-security jobs by 2022 (75% at middle or entry-level) Analysts predict a 100,000 – 200,000 person shortage of people to fill Connected Tech-related jobs in Michigan by 2020
