Mission founder The Mission founder of the San Diego was Junipero Serra. He built the San Diego Mission along with eight other California Missions. He was born in November 24, 1713, in the village of Petra, Majorca, Spain. Junipero Serra died in August, 28, 1784.

Mission Life San Diego de Alcala’s bells ring to give out the attention, the people will start doing their tasks. All the men were taught to plow, plan, and cultivate. The women would watch their children and make food for them.

San Diego De Alcala, known as the ‘Mother of Missions,’ was the first of 21 Spanish Missions established by Junipero Serra. The mission was founded in San Diego De Alcala is also a church. The church burned due to a Indian uprising during 1775.

Mission Agriculture The people of the mission grew wheat and corn.
They also grew herds of horses and cattle. The people cultivated grapes in a vineyard. The women grew fruit in orchards and had a lot of sheep.

Mission Geography/ Trade
The San Diego mission is located near the Pacific Ocean in Southern California. The buildings are unique because of the tiled roofs. The mission is also a church.
