ESS Ethos Subsea Services that are focused on being: Client focused
Safe Simple Robust Off-the Shelf Components Negate the requirement for specialist vessels Installable by local people and vessels Recoverable, recyclable ESS has been described as a ‘Pseudo’-Contractor – A business that not only undertakes subsea services but is continually re-investing in new technology and innovation – quite unusual! Utilising their ‘technology advantage’ ESS perform most of the services that huge Contractors provide at a fraction of the cost. Cable Lay, Pipelay, Trenching, Lifting.

Engineering Consultancy
Ecosse Subsea Systems Personnel ESS provide a specialist personnel and resourcing support business service across the full spectrum of offshore requirements. Today more than £350 million of subsea projects are managed by ESS personnel resource for and on behalf of our clients. Engineering Consultancy ESS offer bespoke engineering and design solutions with a team combining a vast experience curve, specialist subsea expertise, coupled with procurement, fabrication, and installation know-how. Pipelay Technologies ESS Technologies comprises of innovative patented offerings specifically developed over more than 25 years to address subsea operational challenges. These include trenching,cable/pipelay, and lifting applications Ambient Lifting ESS’s patented subsea lifting and positioning technologies Ambient lifting is a flexible mechanism using incompressible gas which facilitates control of the accent, decent and underwater positioning of offshore structures Equipment Hire A wide range of equipment is available for hire to support and deliver subsea installation projects. Including Te Carousel, 10Te Hydraullic Tensioners, SCAR Plough in its four configurations and PREP (Plastic Reeled Elastic Pipelay System).

SCAR Seabed Trenching System: Track Record
Date Project Title Project Description March-April 2012 Laggan-Tormore Boulder Clearance Project Boulder clearance along a single 67km corridor over 6 days, 2,000 large boulders were cleared. Water depths up to 640m. Client; TOTAL. December 2012 Humber Gateway SCAR Demonstration Project Demonstration project by SCAR was deployed in each of its current configurations (boulder clearance, first pass, multi-pass pre-cut trenching and backfill modes) in order to perform passes within several dedicated trial locations. Soils were soft, stiff and hard clays with shear strengths in excess of 300kPa in sections. Site featured many boulders and cobbles. Client; E.On C&R. March-June 2013 Baltic 2 Offshore Wind Farm Project Boulder clearance and pre-cut trenching of 86 array cable routes within the Baltic 2 site. Pre-cut trenching entailed two passes on each of the array routes, trenching to 1.5m Soils varied from soft clays, to stiff sands, to glacial till. Client; Siem Offshore Contractors. Total ploughing distance of some 240km and a total of >250 individual passes. October-November 2013 Humber Gateway Export Cable Boulder Clearance Project Boulder clearance on 2 x 7km Export Cable lines on the Humber Gateway Offshore Wind Farm project. Client; E.On C&R. June – August 2014 Westermost Rough Offshore Wind Farm Project Multi-pass Boulder Clearance operations on 37 inter array routes on Westermost Rough Offshore Wind Farm, Client; Dong Energy. 50,000 targets cleared

Baltic 2 OWF Project A $7.5 million boulder clearing and pre-lay trenching project which has been one of the most successful ever conducted for the wind energy sector. 86 boulder clearing passes followed by 172 first and multi-passes over a 90km route during a 13-week boulder clearing and trenching campaign on the EnBW Baltic 2 offshore wind farm project. The project was on schedule and on budget. Mobilisation on the 86 cable route work scope started in Gdansk/Poland, with ESS transporting its SCAR® ploughing technology by road from Aberdeen. Mobilisation aboard the Siem Topaz took 48 hours with demobilisation being completed in only 12 hours. Several thousand boulders ranging up to 4m in size were cleared from the individual cable routes and ESS performed 260 individual route passes in varying and sometimes challenging soil conditions. Reliability of the plough equipment was excellent as expected with more than 95% uptime.

Humber Gateway OWF Humber Gateway site is located is extremely tidal, with the current predominantly running north to south, frequently in excess of 3 knots. Route clearance and multi-pass trenching modes demonstrated Effective trenching achieved in hard clays and boulders Shallow water operation (11-17m) Higher than anticipated progress rates ( m/hour) and lower than expected tow forces (average 42Te) Turn radius of <50m achieved with trenching plough Boulder clearance run performed in stiff clays
12
Westermost Rough OWF A $10 million boulder clearing project for Dong Energy 33 routes cleared in high currents on spring as well as neap tides 20m corridor required Generally 5 passes per string, Centre line, 2 x Wing lines (accuracy essential) and lay downs at either end (accuracy essential) Campaign was 72 days to include - Ploughing, Surveying, Transiting, Port calls Mobilisation in 47 hours in Aberdeen Demobilisation in 24 hours Within the 20m wide corridors between the 35 towers towers there were 48,000 on seabed target boulders 0.35m and above. The project was on schedule and on budget.
