General informations Bucharest is the capital municipality, cultural, industrial, and financial centre of Romania. It is the largest city in Romania, located in the southeast of the country, on the banks of the Dâmbovița River. Bucharest was first mentioned in documents as early as 1459.

General informations Eclectic architecture, wich forms a mix of historical and modern buildings, reflects the history of the city in the interwar period. The city was then named „Small Paris” (Micul Paris).

Climate Bucharest has a tranitional climate with both continental and subtropical influences. The city’s winters can get windy. Winter temperature often dip below 0 C. sometimes even to -20 C. In summer the average temperature is 23 C. Temperatures sometimes reach 35 to 40 C in mid-summer in the city centre.

How to get to Bucharest by plane
This is the easiest way to get to the city. In Bucharest you may find 2 airports: Henri Coanda and Aurel Vlaicu

How to get to Bucharest by train
The North Station is the main railway station in Bucharest. Here there are trains that depart not only to the city but also to Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Athens, Istanbul, Moscow or Kiev

Public transport There is a variety of ways to move around the city. You can get around by buses, trams and trolleys. Bucharest also offers an underground service. Prices: A retourn ticket costs 2.5 RON (0,60 €) A 10 ride ticket costs 9 RON (2,10 €)

Accomodation In Bucharest you can find a lot of different forms of accomodation Hotels – prices vary from 45 to 150 euros per night. Youth Hostels- the price for a room is is about 15 euros per night Camping - Bucharest offers also camping sites for familys. The cost is about 30 euros per day.

Cuisine In general, Romanian cuisine is tasty but is often critisized for using too much oil, salt and sausages. In Bucharest you can easily find restaurants that match your likes.

Popular dishes Chiftele - are large metballs in flour or breadcrum batter with added garlic, dill and parsley. Mititei – are small grilled meat chops with a lot of garlic, cumin and pepper.

Popular dishes Sarmale - is a dish that reminds the Piolish dish- gołąbki, they are made with pork and rice. Zacusca – is a sauce made out of aubergines, cucurbit tomatoes, onions, mushrooms and pepper. Romanians often eat it with bread.

Popular dishes Ciorba de burtă - is a pupular soup. Made out of vegetables and meat or fish. You can order it with pasta or rice. Saramura –is a salty grilled carp.

Desserts Cozonac - is a type of bread with added vannilla or rum. Baklava – is a dessert made out of thin pastery with added nuts. It also contains sugar or honey.

The Revolution Square is the most important square in the capital. The Romanian revolution took place here in 1989.

Romanian Ateneum is the most famous concert hall in Romania. It is situated near the Revolution Square.

Shopping In Bucharest you may find many places to shop. The biggest shopping centres are: Unirea Shopping Center, Băneasa Shopping City ou Bucureşti Mall.
