2. Francisco Pizarro
born sometime in the 1470’s (probably 1471) in Trujilo, Spain
died June 26, 1541
distant cousin of Hernan Cortes (conquistador who conquered the Aztecs)

3. Panama
In 1513, Pizarro accompanied Vasco Núñez de Balboa in his crossing of the Isthmus of Panama to the Pacific coast
Pedrarias Davila became the governor of this land and Pizarro was loyal to him
As a result, Pizarro was granted the title of mayor of Panama City

4. The Conquest - November 1532
came to Tumbes (near Cuzco) with 250 men and horses
the conquest of Tumbes was easy because its inhabitants didn’t like their leader (Atahualpa)
after conquering Tumbes he founded the Great city of Kings in Lima (1533)
eventually after fighting for power with Diego de Almagro, he was killed. (1541)

5. Death
On June 26, 1541, a group of about 25 men, led by Diego de Almagro, stormed Pizarro’s palace
Most of his guests fled, but some of them stayed to fight with him
Pizarro killed 3 attackers but while pulling his sword out of the third he was stabbed in the throat and died
He collapsed to the floor, drew a cross out of his own blood, and cried out for Jesus
