What support did Mary I have when she came to the throne? What challenges did she face?

Sample essay question: ‘The crisis faced by the Tudors in the years was primarily caused by economic factors.’ Assess the validity of this view. Rebellions questions draw on the same knowledge as MTC ones – both analyse nature of mid 16th c conflict. Note the timespan we have to consider for the MTC varies (generally means , but for Jones and for Loades and different again for AQA)

6 10 What was Mary’s agenda? In pairs or individually, complete the activity on p.4 of your handout. Extension activity On your timeline (pp.6-7), mark the Mid-Tudor crisis factors with different colours/symbols and number them in order of importance. Any achievements support revisionists’ positive view of Mary’s reign

7 Group work 20 Each group will work individually or in pairs to complete the tasks on their section of the gapped handout. Pairs will then compare their answers with the rest of their group to ensure they have all the relevant information. Choose a spokesperson for the group to feedback to the class. Everyone will complete their own handout. Extension activity Read Hutching’s article, noting any failures or achievements relating to each MTC factor.
