Creates civil & criminal penalties for violations
Prohibits trade of wildlife, fish, and plants that have been illegally removed, transported, or sold
Created because game species were threatened by commercial hunting
Today, it’s mainly used to prevent the spread of potentially dangerous non-native species
Unlawful to import, export, transport, sell, receive, acquire, purchase in interstate or foreign commerce any plant in violation of the laws of the U.S., a State, an Indian tribe, or any foreign law that protects plants
