2 Figure 1 AML Cells Consume Fructose to Satisfy Metabolic Requirements
During malignant transformation, AML cells increase expression of the fructose transporter SLC2A5 (GLUT5). This allows these cells to import and consume fructose in addition to glucose, which provides a metabolic advantage, especially when glucose concentrations in the local microenvironment are limiting.
