The Occipital Lobe Maison Thomas-Eudy, Julie Bosworth, Libby Pierce, Yasmin Sayouty

2 The Occipital Lobe Location
The occipital lobe is located at the bottom, back part of the cortex, indicated by the yellow color on the diagram. Due to its location, injury in this part of the brain is unlikely, though it can be rather serious.

3 Functions of the Occipital Lobe
The occipital lobe is one of the four major lobes of the brain. It is responsible for processing the visual information from the eyes. The occipital lobe helps us understand and comprehend what our eyes are seeing. This lobe contains two parts: Visual Association Visual Cortex

4 Parts that Work with the Occipital Lobe
Prefrontal Cortex If this part of the brain misfires neurotransmitters, the result could be the occipital lobe creating hallucinations.

5 Control The occipital lobe functions involuntarily.

6 If Something Goes Wrong
Your vision can be damaged or altered. Eyesight can weaken Sometimes extremely Sometimes COMPLETELY (blindness) Colorblindness Visual Hallucinations Source:
