Mary Morston

Innocent “I have led a retired life”
The use of the adjective ‘retired’ shows how she is a innocent stay at home woman whom does not work. We know that she is very innocent as in chapter 2 she tells us that she is a governess, we also know she is very innocent as n chapter 1 she tells us she has no interest in the money and just wants to be with Dr Watson. Another thing that portrays her as a innocent women is that throughout the book we know that she is interested in Dr Watson but she never flirts or makes herself seem interested .

Modest “She wore a small turban of the same dull hue, relieved only by a suspicion of white feather in the side”. Mary morstan is modest because she doesn’t dress provocatively and is quite understated. You can see this is in the first sentence. The use of the adjective “small” and “dull” shows the reader she is modest because there quite understated words.

Calm and composed “She must have been more than woman if she did not feel some uneasiness at the strange Enterprise upon which we were embarking, yet her self-control was perfect”.The line “her self-control was perfect” shchaows that she overthinks what she will do, This can be seen at the end of chapter 11 when she finds out the treasure was gone from the box. When watson opens the box and its empty she just stays calm and acts like she isnt bothered.

Caring “Our companion patted her thin, work-worn hand and murmured some few words of kindly, womanly comfort which brought the colour back into the others bloodless cheeks”.
